General Information

The Cumberland County Schools Evaluation and Testing Department is responsible for the training, materials distribution, scanning, and reporting of all North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and federally required assessments.    These assessments include the End-of-Grade (EOG) English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics assessments in grades 3-8, as well as the End-of-Grade (EOG) Science assessment in grades 5 and 8.   Grade 8 students are also administered the EXPLORE Test.  For high schools, these assessments include the End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in English II, Algebra I, and Biology, as well as the ACT, PLAN Test, and WorkKeys.  Based on their educational needs, alternate assessments are also available for students with disabilities as identified through the Exceptional Children’s (EC) program.

Cumberland County Schools focuses on growth and proficiency when analyzing individual student test scores, as well as, how these scores are reported by teacher and by school.  The Evaluation and Testing Department develops evaluation tools and provides training to CCS staff that assists schools in Cumberland County as they plan for the future with a clear direction and focus on improving student growth and achievement.

The Evaluation and Testing Department collects and reports federal data.  Then, working with the Federal Programs Department, various programs are assessed, and the influence these programs have on data is reported.  In addition to looking at specific programs, overall individual school data is presented to the school’s staff.  This data allows principals to evaluate their school’s programs and practices and to make adjustments specific to their school’s needs.
